My New Show Isn’t for College Kids, My New Show is For Me.

haters-gonna-hate
So this week I launched my new show.

If I were to estimate I would say 15% hated it…with a passion. 60% don’t care one way or another. 23% will support me in anything and everything I do. 2% truly understand where I’m going with it.

Many of you hear me speak at conferences and webinars about how haters are good. Haters mean you’re popular enough to have haters! And haters and trolls make you better! I love this Peter Shankman post about haters.

I am not surprised by the reactions but as much as someone can prepare for it, it’s never easy to read comments from previously raving fans cry “Sellout”, “Boring”, and “This F***ing sucks!” Still, I am here to say that while I truly want to preserve my entire subscriber base, I don’t want to at the expense of going back to the old format and my old approach.

It’s a new journey this time around. While my show is still called Freezerburns (with a slight addition of +1 to the title), it feels like I’m starting over again. The difference is when I started 4 years ago I gained subscribers one person at a time with my original concept: frozen food reviews. Now I have many more subscribers whom I have to shift my brand with. It’s like I’m the new CEO and I inherited a couple hundred thousand people that were hired for a different company. I’ll lose a bunch and I’m ok with that.

My new show isn’t for college kids. My old show was.

My new show is for me. And I happen to think it will resonate with others like me.

Much, much more on the grand vision for my show but let’s just say that this comment make me say, “Yes!”

Until then, know that I am happy and stubborn and am gonna crush this thing.
