2013 Goals: February Check In

Ok. It’s the end of February. How are you doing with your 2013 goals? Here’s what I have going on. As a reminder, my 3 goals were:

1. Re-Watch the complete series of Friends by December 31st, 2013

2. Run 750 miles by December 31st, 2013

3. Volunteer at the Food Bank 12 times by December 31st, 2013

As a reminder, 750 miles works out to 62.5 miles per month. In January I ran almost 20 miles over that. I felt good about building up a buffer in January just in case sickness, injuries, or vacations come up later in the year. In the month of February, I crushed it again and achieved some milestones!

I ran 80.39 miles in the month of February. This was no doubt helped by the fact that I have begun to stretch my runs into longer runs. On February 16th, I ran the longest I’ve ever run: 15 miles. I can get used to running long distances. I think I may try to go 17 miles in March.

The only major issue for me right now, however, is I’m battling a pretty nasty blister on my heel and the bottom of one of my toes. The heel is because I got some sweet shoes that needed breaking in. The toe blister was from pure stupidity—wearing cotton socks while running in the rain. It hurts, but it’s manageable. But thank god I have the buffer…

Earlier this month, I volunteered at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina again. You can read my recap post here.

My goal of watching the entire series of Friends this year is officially cancelled. While I feel bad to cancel a goal in February, I realized it just wasn’t a goal that I’m interested in achieving. What’s more important to me is spending quality time with my wife all year and this month we did a ton! We had a great Valentine’s Dinner out at my favorite restaurant in Raleigh, Bella Monica. We also had a great night out at DPAC to see Mary Poppins (plus a great meal at Dos Perros). Finally, last night we enjoyed going out and trying the new Dean’s Seafood Bar and Grill and then caught a movie at the new Stone Theaters Park West in Morrisville.

So that’s how I tracked to my 3 main goals. But I was even busier this month with other things too! For one, I gave a talk at the Triangle Interactive Marketing Association. I also made this video for Heather for Valentine’s Day. I celebrated Chinese New Year with my dad who was visiting from San Francisco and I also made Chinese New Year-inspired waffles. I launched a new blog at work called the Data-Driven CMO. Finally, I got interviewed by my the creative website, 147.

But the biggest news this month is the launch of my new webshow! Phew!

So that’s my month. Jam-packed with awesomeness! And I feel good about my progress so far. March is going to be busy! Soccer season starts saturday and that will last through the spring.

How are you doing with your goals?
