Prepping for our Everglades National Park Trip

everglades
It is the beginning of March and our family has not visited a National park since December when we visited Wright Brothers National Memorial (again) and Cape Hatteras! I’m going stir crazy! If we are going to hit our goal of 100 National Park sites visited by 2020 we can’t rest on our number of 55! We need to push on! And push on we will!

The kids have Spring Break at the end of March so we are driving south to visit my in-laws and visit 3 more National Park sites including Everglades National Park! I’m also excited to catch a Spring Training game to see my beloved Red Sox in Fort Myers! Here’s our itinerary:

So much to do!

We have 3 soccer games the weekend after Easter so we only really have 6 days down in Florida to tour the National Parks. Everglades National Park in particular is vast with tons of things to see! The park is over 2,350 square miles with multiple notable sights and tour opportunities. We have earmarked the Anhinga Trail, Shark Valley’s 65-foot observation tower, a Shark Valley Tram Tour, and the Nike Hercules missile base as places to see.

Prepping my camera gear

In February I spent 2 weeks in India. I used that trip to test out a few camera configurations perfect for longer days and hiking. I am planning on overpacking my camera bag for this trip because this summer we will be on an Alaskan Cruise followed by visiting 6 epic National park sites in the state of Washington. I want to really test out a 2 camera body pack for this trip. This will allow me to dedicate a camera body for my still lens and then another dedicated to a cinelens. We are driving down to Florida so if my 2 camera setup becomes too unwieldy, I will be able to just downsize without worrying.

55 down…18 to go!

We are planning on visiting 18 National Park sites in 2016. Check out this post for details. Thanks for following me and my family as we embark on our next adventures!
