What Tech I Packed For My Vacation

A friend of mine asked me last night “How much tech do you bring when going on vacation?” I quickly responded with “Sometimes, more than I need.”

Tonight I am excited to fly down to Florida and meet up with my family and have a much-needed vacation! Last night, I spent a considerable amount of time deciding which technology to bring and why. My goal is to pack lightly but strategically. While some of it won’t be used often, I want to make sure I have the right equipment to document the right moments. Of course, my biggest goal is to savor the moment with my own two eyes first and store in my memory bank not my SD card. But my iPhone camera simply ain’t enough sometimes when you want to capture a moment. So without further adieu, here’s what I packed for my vacation this week.

MacBook Pro

To be honest, I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to bring my computer with me. But the possibility of doing some work and the ease of updating this blog with a computer over an iPad made it a necessity.

Nikon D7000

This is a fairly new camera for me and of course I want to use the vacation as an opportunity to play around with it more.

Samsung TL350

I got this nifty point and shoot camera when I went to Thailand in 2011. I’m bringing this because we are spending a few days at Disney next week and I don’t want to lug around the larger camera nor do I want the risk of it getting damaged.

GoPro HD Hero

My kids are starting to get more daring on rides and I think it would be pretty cool to take some GoPro footage on the rides. This, admittedly, is a game-time decision. If it is too hot in Florida on the park days I will opt to not bring this or my GoPro chest strap.

iPhone

I’m not sure if I have to explain this one. Haven’t upgraded to iPhone 5. More on that later in another post.

iPad Mini and Amazon Kindle

I would love to bring only one of these but the fact is I love reading on the non-backlit Kindle and I like playing Bejeweled on the iPad Mini (guilty as charged).

Beats by Dre Studio Headphones

People tend to pan the quality of these headphones but I like them and although larger than my Bose Noise-Cancelling headphones, I love the way it feels on my ears.

Running Tech

Of course, I’m going to bring some running gear. I’m bringing my iPod Nano in my Lunatik watch, a cheap pair of Sony over the ear earbuds, and my Black Diamond headlamp.

Mono EFX Kondensor Backpack

Another new acquisition. I love the style of Mono bags as well as the storage capacity. This pack fits everything you see above.

So here it is Charlie: every bit of tech I’m packing for my vacation. Looking forward to the airport security line! < /sarcasm >
